A Day in the Life of a Key Account Manager

Hi! My name is Travis, I am a Key Accounts Manager at Too Good To Go in New York. Before moving to New York, I worked and lived in Portland OR, Los Angeles, Memphis, and Washington DC! I have always worked closely with Food & Beverage and Hospitality businesses, and working with Too Good To Go has allowed me to put a new perspective on these relationships.

In my role as a Key Account manager, I am responsible for creating partnerships with brands that operate multiple locations, sometimes at a national level. My particular focus is on bakery and cafe businesses. What I enjoy most about this role, is that I am able to offer a solution to the problem that nearly all of these businesses face daily: food waste. It’s rewarding work that requires research, strategy, relationship-building, and problem-solving.

Today, I am going to share what it’s like to work as a member of the Key Accounts team at Too Good To Go!

6 AM: I am one of those people that doesn’t have an alarm clock. If I am slow to get out of bed, my dog, Atticus will insist that we are up in time to go to Prospect Park during the off-leash hours.

8:30 AM: Set and Setting. Most days I am starting from home with my primary tool in the fight against food waste: a laptop. There is always coffee too. Today I have brewed up my favorite from Finca El Injerto Guatemala, roasted by Stumptown.

9 AM: Before peeking at my inbox I always check in on our international Slack channels. There is inspiration in seeing what my colleagues have been up to around the world. It seems everyone at Too Good To Go is always sharing positive news, new ideas, and celebrating each other's work. Today we get the news that we have passed another critical milestone, having saved over 1 million meals in one week! It’s a great achievement and a reminder of what it means to be a part of a company that is mission-focused.

11 AM: This week I am working with a new partner, Juice Press. They are an incredible brand with a strong focus on sustainability. We are still getting to know each other, so I am working closely with their team and visiting their stores to make sure they have a positive experience working with Too Good To Go. One of their delicious smoothies fuels me for the rest of my day.

1 PM: Between meetings, I find myself near the Union Square farmers market, and I can’t resist getting some fresh produce for later. One of the benefits of being out in the field today!

2 PM: I join a manager meeting at another new partner, Ole & Steen. I really enjoy getting to know the businesses we work with. Today I learned some incredible facts about how this Danish bakery already upcycles nearly 80% of their leftover bread and pastries. Too Good To Go is going to help them save the last 20% of their surplus to bring their food waste to zero. While talking to their staff, they tell me how excited they are to not have to throw food out anymore. This is really encouraging and energizing!

3 PM: I stop into a couple of coffee shops and bakeries. When focusing on the brands that we have not yet partnered with, visiting later in the day gives me a good idea of how much food they may be throwing out. Talking with staff I can spread the word about Too Good To Go’s mission and also better understand how their business operates. This type of research prepares me for when I meet with members of their management and leadership teams.

4:30 PM: I need to log some notes from the day, send a few thank you notes to the folks I met with, and prep for tomorrow. With the Spring weather here, I find a nice spot back at the park to use as my office while I wrap up.

7 PM: I love to cook at home, and tonight is pizza night! I am always trying to improve my homemade pizza. This one turned out pretty great. Add a bottle of Bardolino that I can’t get enough of, and dinner is served!
