The world’s largest surplus food app, Too Good To Go, has today announced the launch of a new initiative designed to support independent restaurant businesses who had to close due to pressures of the pandemic.
The Restaurant Revival campaign will help two restaurants get back on their feet and re-open in premises where the rent will be covered by Too Good To Go for three months from September to November 2021. They’ll also join the Too Good To Go app and include a food waste fighting menu item in a bid to reopen sustainably.
Restaurateurs are invited to apply for the initiative in one of two pop-up locations:
- London - The Prince, West Brompton
- Glasgow - The Dockyard Social
Paschalis Loucaides, UK Managing Director of Too Good To Go, says, “It’s no secret that the last year has had a devastating impact on the UK’s restaurant scene. Figures show that during the pandemic one tenth of Britain’s restaurants were lost as rent costs mounted up while doors were forced to stay closed. Now restrictions have been eased, the loss of these local businesses will be even more apparent.
“This is where we want to help. Much like we give a second chance to the food we save from going to waste on our app, we also want to make sure that some of the UK’s favourite local restaurants are given a second chance to thrive. As a chef myself, I feel particularly passionate about this campaign and I’m excited to see the applications come through.”
To apply, restaurateurs simply have to fill out the application form found on the Too Good To Go website here before midnight on the 11 August 2021. Successful applicants will then be contacted by 17 August, with plans for the pop-ups to open to the public from the 13 September 2021.
